Low Vision Diagnosis and Treatment in Hot Springs

If you’re in the later stages of some eye diseases, you may be experiencing low vision, a deterioration of the eyesight so bad that it can’t be corrected with normal eyeglasses. With low vision, it’s difficult or impossible to do most things in your daily life such as read a book, drive a car, watch television or enjoy crafts and hobbies. At Holt Eye Clinic we see many patients with low vision connected to a variety of eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration. It can be upsetting to find that your eyesight is permanently damaged, but we can offer multiple strategies for living your life while dealing with your vision loss.

Low Vision Therapy Options

Dr. Holt has been providing low vision services for our patients for over 15 years. The goal in low vision therapy is to correct near vision to allow the patient to perform normal daily tasks. In most cases, he’ll begin by prescribing low vision high powered eyeglasses, which are sometimes five times the strength of normal eyeglasses lenses. These eyeglasses are used to provide optimal magnification. If that’s not enough, you can move on to handheld or stand magnifiers. Dr. Holt also offers the newest electronic magnifiers made by Eschenbach, Coil, and Optolec. Once the doctor has determined the best course of therapy and the tools to provide it, our technician team will help you to learn the best ways to use your devices in your everyday life.
